Overview

Kenya has a well-developed export-support ecosystem that a small exporter should use before spending money on market entry. The Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency (KEPROBA), which operates the Make it Kenya brand, is the lead state agency for export promotion and nation branding; it was formed in 2019 from the merger of the Export Promotion Council and Brand Kenya Board. KEPROBA provides market research and intelligence, buyer-seller matchmaking, trade-fair participation, export readiness training and advice on trade regulations, financing and market access. It is complemented by the State Department for Trade within the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry, by InvestKenya on the investment side, and by sector directorates under the Agriculture and Food Authority for crop-specific market development. For a small exporter the practical first stops are the Make it Kenya portal for market profiles and the InfoTrade Kenya portal for procedures, then direct contact with KEPROBA advisors for participation in trade missions and exhibitions targeting AfCFTA, EU and US buyers.
