Packaging and Labelling

Export packaging must satisfy BSTI marking rules, ISPM-15 wood-packaging standards and, above all, the destination market's labelling law.

Overview

Packaging and labelling for exports from Bangladesh answer to two masters: domestic rules set mainly by BSTI, and the importing country's own requirements, which are usually stricter and decisive for market access. Domestically, BSTI administers standards on marking, net-content declaration and, for many consumer goods, mandatory information in Bangla and English. If you use solid wood pallets or crates, they must be heat-treated or fumigated and stamped to the international ISPM-15 phytosanitary standard, otherwise the consignment can be refused at the border. For your specific destination check labelling law through the ITC Market Access Map and the ePing alert system, which publishes notified changes to technical and SPS measures. Garment exporters must meet buyer and destination rules on fibre composition, care symbols, country-of-origin (Made in Bangladesh) and, for the EU and US, chemical and safety marking. Get label artwork approved by the buyer before bulk production.

    Country-of-origin marking

    Goods must be durably marked Made in Bangladesh; garments also need fibre content and care labelling per the destination market.

    ISPM-15 wood packaging

    Solid-wood pallets, crates and dunnage must be heat-treated or fumigated and bear the ISPM-15 stamp to clear plant-quarantine controls abroad.

    BSTI marking and net-content rules

    Regulated consumer products must show standard reference, manufacturer details and net quantity, in Bangla and English where required.

    Destination-market labelling

    Food, cosmetics and consumer goods must meet the importing country's ingredient, allergen, language and safety-marking rules (EU, US, etc.).

    Handling and transport marks

    Cartons should carry standardised shipping marks, batch/lot numbers and handling symbols to support traceability and customs matching.
