Fijian exporters can access concessional export finance through the Reserve Bank's Export Finance Facility, the Fiji Development Bank and commercial-bank trade services.

Overview

Cash flow is often the biggest hurdle for a small exporter who must produce and ship goods months before being paid. Fiji has dedicated tools for this. The Reserve Bank of Fiji operates an Export Finance Facility (EFF) that provides concessional back-to-back funding to lending institutions so they can offer exporters pre- and post-shipment finance at reduced interest rates. The Fiji Development Bank offers an Export Credit Facility and import-substitution and SME loans aimed squarely at productive and export businesses. Commercial banks operating in Fiji, such as BRED Bank (Fiji), BSP and ANZ, provide trade-finance instruments including letters of credit, documentary collections, export bills and guarantees that reduce the risk of not being paid by an overseas buyer. Investment Fiji can help connect exporters to the right finance and to grant or matching-grant support. Talk to more than one provider, because pricing and appetite for MSME exporters vary.
