Restricted and controlled goods such as kava, plants, animal products and certain foods require an export permit or licence before clearance.

Overview

Not everything can be freely exported from Fiji. Depending on the product you may need a specific export permit or licence in addition to your customs declaration. Plant and plant products (including kava, taro, ginger and fresh produce) need a phytosanitary certificate and, for some, an export permit from the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji. Animal and fishery products require BAF and Ministry of Health/Fisheries sign-off. Some commodities such as certain timber, coral, shells and cultural artefacts are restricted or prohibited and need clearance from the relevant department, and CITES-listed species need a CITES permit. The Fiji Trade Information Portal lists, product by product, whether a permit is required and which agency issues it, so use it to confirm before you sell. Applying early matters because inspection and certification can add days to your timeline.
