Customs formalities: lodging the export declaration

Exports are declared electronically to the Jamaica Customs Agency through ASYCUDA World, supported by an invoice, packing list and any product permits.

Overview

Jamaica clears exports through ASYCUDA World, the same electronic platform used for imports. You (or your licensed customs broker) lodge an export declaration referencing the correct HS tariff code, the value and quantity of the goods, the country of destination and the export regime. The system assigns a risk channel; most low-risk exports move quickly, while flagged consignments may be examined at the port or airport. Alongside the declaration you upload the commercial invoice, packing list, the transport document (bill of lading or airway bill) and any certificate the product requires, such as a phytosanitary certificate for fresh produce or a certificate of origin for preferential markets. Accurate HS classification is the single most important thing to get right: it drives duties in the destination market, eligibility for trade-agreement preferences, and whether any control applies.
